Welcome to Venus Class

Venus class is a mixed year 5/6 class and our teacher is Miss Tysoe

Important information to remember:

Homework – SPaG homework is set on a Monday and Maths homework is set on a Wednesday.

Both sets of homework need to be completed and handed in on the following Monday.

Reading – children are expected to read at home, and record it in their planner, at least three times per week.

Reading Records are handed in on a Thursday.

PE is on Wednesday and Thursday and children need to come to school in their PE kits.

During SATs week the year 5’s were still squirreling away working. With Mrs Jones, they wrote a different style poem each day and then added illustrations. Here are a couple of examples:

For our first lesson in Art this term we learnt about collaging. We gathered a variety of different materials to collage with and picked a biome to collage. The creating was chaos, but the end product is fantastic.

We learned who William Morris is and how his worked was inspired by all things nature. We are planning on creating our own William Morris inspired print – using similarities based on his work, but with an Under Water Theme.

We worked on using our understanding of contrasting colours and created a piece of art based on ‘The Wave’ by Japanese artist ‘Hokusai’

In English we have been working on how to write an Information text – our end goal for our ‘Hot Write’ is to write an information text based on Sharks.
We studied and worked on the success criteria and skills for an information text for a couple of weeks and we then worked in created an information text, in groups, based on ‘The Abyss’ part of the sea.
Here are our group ones – we can’t wait to share our individual ones!

Part of our Science has been to understand the difference in a variety of animal life cycles. We worked as groups to research and create a poster of life cycles for the different classifications. We were able to discuss similarities and differences between each one.

In Art we started off the term by focusing on our water colour techniques.

We used learnt how to layer the paint to understand how to create darker tones. We used this technique to create an under the water scene.
