At Branston Junior Academy, we have 5 Core Values, these are:

  • Respect
  • Relationships
  • Resilience
  • Reflection
  • Responsibility.

The British Values and 9 protected Characteristics therefore, are naturally reinforced throughout the whole ethos of our school. However, some specific lessons, assemblies and/or discussion, particularly those related to PSHE and RE, are often carried out, to continue to reinforce the meanings of the British Values.

At Branston Junior Academy we believe the following definitions of 'radicalisation' and 'extremism'.

Radicalisation is defined as the process by which people come to support terrorism and extremism, and in some cases, to then participate in terrorist groups.

Extremism is vocal or active opposition to fundamental 'British Values', which are

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs

Staff and Governors regularly complete an online Government course, to ensure that we are all up-to-date with the latest information and are therefore better able to support children so that they become less vulnerable to radicalisation and extremism.
