21/05/2021   Cycle Proficiency

The week started with 31 very excited Year 6 students with their bicycles…..and, with a huge thanks to Mr Street, Ms Cox, Mr Mellor, Mr Thompson and Mr Brownless (our fantastic parent volunteers), we started our cycle proficiency sessions on the back playground on the Monday. The children were so superb, that we moved to the designated roads nearby and continued our sessions on the Tuesday and the Wednesday. I am so proud of the children for the way they not only concentrated on their cycling skills, but were also an absolute credit to the school as they tried not to inconvenience our ‘neighbours’. Well done to all involved!

21/05/2021   Lincolnshire Agricultural Society School's Gardening Competiton - Reuse and Grow

This Summer at BJA we have entered a gardening competition. Our pupils are tasked with the challenge of researching, designing and creating a miniature ‘Show’ garden with a key emphasis on reusing plastics. We would like as many pupils involved as possible, so we’re hoping during the half term break some of you would be willing to make something out of plastic that could be included in our ‘Show’ garden.  For more information click on the link Lincolnshire Agricultural Society School's Gardening Competion  creations need to be brought into school the week beginning 7th June

05/11/2020   Cancellation of After School Clubs

Unfortunately, as a result of the most recent DfE guidance sent to schools, we have to cancel all after-school clubs (Football, Multi-Sport and Gardening) as of the week commencing 9/11/20. The only after-school provision that will be in place is Big Pickles. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, but hope that we will be able to offer After School Clubs in the New Year, should DfE guidance allow it.  At BJA we recognise the importance of after-school clubs, which is why normally staff work hard to provide lots of after-school activities for pupils, however we are bound by the DfE guidance and must follow it to ensure that we keep children and staff as safe as possible.

05/06/2019   Carenza Lewis tells us about being an archaeologist and about the Black Death!

Wow! What a fabulous assembly we had today - led by Professor Carenza Lewis (Lincoln Uni Lecturer and ex-TV presenter from Time Team). She came to tell us all about the job of an archaeologist. We then learnt about how archaeology can tell us about how people lived, where they lived and what impact things like 'the Black Death' (the plague) can have on communities.

We used playing cards to be able to visualise how the Black Death would have affected a community.

After the presentation, several children had really good questions to ask Carenza. There were so many, that she had to take some away with her to answer! Charlie (one of our Journalists) also spent time in Mrs Shaw's office, asking some really good questions, for his latest Sheepwash article. [As you can see from the photo, Daisy enjoyed the conversation too!]

Huge thanks to Carenza for spending time out of your very busy day, to come and spend nearly two hours with us....the children really enjoyed working with you....and I htink you may have inspired some archaeologists of the future! [My humblest apologies to all BJA parents if your children now start digging holes in your garden, to find ancient pottery pieces!]
